Welcome to My Rally Campaign
My name is Christian Gomes. I am an 18 year old cyclist from Lethbridge, Alberta, currently going to school in Squamish, British Columbia. I compete in road, cyclocross and mountain bike racing at a national level. For the past five years, I have been extremely passionate about this sport and all that is encompasses. This funding will help me continue to progress myself as an athlete and an individual through the Parcours Institute.
Why I'm Raising Funds
The Parcours Institute is an academy that helps young cyclists on their path to professional cycling. It is comprised of a weekend camp in Vancouver that culminates in a week-long training camp in California. It focuses not only on endurance and strength development, but also on character and brand building. I believe that this program will help me improve my cycling career, both on and off the bike. I need these funds to help cover the costs of the program and travel to Vancouver and California.
How I Got Here
I grew up in a small city in southern Alberta. There were a few recreational cyclists, but not many people were interested in competitive cycling. In the past three years, my parents and I have learned how to navigate the world of provincial bike racing all on our own. For the first year, I had no coach and no team to help me race. I had no training plan and no idea of how to start racing. Through trial and error, my family and I figured it out. 2 years later I had been selected to represent my province twice at the national championships, and had the opportunity to race and win at the Walla Walla stage race with Team Alberta. I have won road races, provincial championships, and overall provincial series'. After succeeding at a provincial level, I need a program to help me progress to a continental level and hopefully to a world level. Parcours is the program that will help me achieve this goal.
Throughout my journey, many people have supported me. I'd like to thank my family for always helping me and motivating me, my coach for progressing my training so much, and my local bike shop, Ascent Cycle, for their undying support. I'd also like to thank Quest University and their LEAP program for helping me study, train, and race at the same time. Additionally, I'd like to thank all those involved in competitive cycling in Alberta and BC. Whether organizing races, coaching Alberta Team projects, running a club or team, or even participating in races, you have all helped me progress and helped develop this sport that we love. Thank you!
